Once in a while a great cigar comes along…

Estella Grand Corona

A great cigar at any price.

When a great cigar maker teams up with a great cigar vendor, the outcome is often greater than the sum of its parts.  For example, AJ Fernandez made his reputation by creating outstanding blends for Cigar.com, and Alec Bradley has put together great brands for Famous-smoke.com. Well, a new cigar from Atlanticcigar.com has surfaced, and it’s a winner.  Made exclusively for Atlantic by Erik Espinosa, the Estella Grand Corona is a Nic puro of outstanding qualities.

Readers of Robustojoe.com may already know how much I love the La Bomba cigar line.  For that blend, Erik Espinosa chose the My Father Cigar Factory for production.  Since then he has opened his own facility in Esteli, Nicaragua.  It is here that his newest cigar, the Estella, is made.  Espinosa’s Cuban heritage is evident in all his blends, and the entubar construction gives all his cigars a perfect burn and draw.  But in the Estella, his Cuban roots are most evident.  So much so, that smoking this cigar seems like an homage to the great Cohiba Siglo IV.  Not only in construction, but its pre-lit aroma has a  perfume-like quality similar to that great Cuban brand.  Plus, the Estella and Cohiba IV share similar dimensions and flavor profiles.  Although the Estella is unmistakingly a Nic puro, it’s herbal tones are not dissimilar to that of the Cohiba.  It’s like the Estella is a Nic version of the Siglo IV.  The word “Cubanesque” is often bantered about in cigar reviews, and in the case of the Estella, it has never been more true.

Estella, Cohiba.

A truly Cubanesque cigar.

In a world where dark, earthy cigars are gaining popularity, it’s refreshing to discover a great cigar that has classic cigar flavor.  Creamy, with a touch of spice, this aromatic and herbal corona has tons of natural tobacco goodness.  The Estella is an outstanding cigar at any price, and at $5/stick I recommend it for all cigar smokers, novice and experienced alike.

This is indeed a very good cigar.Full flavor with floral notes. Does not have the loads of pepper that passes for flavor in many cigars lately. Pleasant finish,
