The lighter we use to light our cigars can be a personal thing. If you have a favorite lighter, please tell us the make and model, what you paid for it, and why you like it so much. Thanks.
What is your current favorite cigar lighter?

I have a Zippo Blu. I think it was $30. It’s not my *favorite* cigar lighter, but it’s still the one that I use.
I use it because it’s a Zippo and they’re made in the USA. I do everything I can to support American companies, and Zippo, despite their quality control issues with this specific lighter, is a very good company.
Cigar smoking is a bit of a ritual; I get out my Zippo, I empty my German crystal ashtray, I go to the freezer and get some ice to put in my antique cut crystal scotch glass, I pour some scotch or bourbon, I cut my cigar, I fumble with my lighter for a minute or two; I take a few puffs, then I sit back and relax. It goes out? I fumble with my lighter some more. As you can see, I’m okay with all of the problems that the Zippo Blu has. I use it anyway.
I also keep a box of matches next to my ashtray.
I have a JetLine triple flame butane lighter that I paid $14 for. I think of the lighter as a brute force type of lighter.
My favorite cigar lighter is my Nibo Royal 44, a triple jet butane w/punch cutter. I own three of these: The first (gunmetal finish) I bought at my local for $25 four years ago. The other two (one gunmetal, one black) I bought in a 2-fer deal online, at about $20 each, not long after I purchased the first. It is this lighter than made the butane torch my lighter of choice.
I’ve been smoking cigars for almost 20 years, smoking 4-5 cigars a day for most of that time, so a reliable lighter is a must. Until I found the Nibo Royal 44, the only lighter I found I could depend on was my Zippo. The butane torch lighters I tried were tempermental to ignite and to fill, and totally unreliable. Though many touted their virtues, I said “no thanks” to the butane torch for a long time…I’d rather taste a little lighter fluid (which you can’t taste when you’re used to a flint fluid lighter) than not be able to light a cigar when I’m ready for a smoke.
The Nibo Royal 44 changed all that. When I first saw it in my local, I was immediately drawn to its good looks, quality construction and solid, comfortable feel in the hand. When I lit up a cigar with it for the first time, I was sold on its ease of use and the powerful torch that could handle my big-ring (toro and up) cigars. Over time it has only gotten better. The Nibo Royal 44 has proven to be a reliable lighter after years of daily use. It is easy to fill and maintain, has adequate fuel capacity, and works every time I need to light up.
I love my cigars. With the Nibo Royal 44, the pleasure of cigar smoking has only gotten better.
I use a novelty torch flame lighter I bought on Ebay. It came with about 8 different styles. This is shaped like a ray gun. Others were shaped like a foot, a hand grenade, a BMW emblem and so on. They were very inexpensive and I figured I’d use them as long as they lasted. So far the ray gun is still working, with fuel refills of course, for just over a year. The others I haven’t tried yet.
I’m more interested in the jumbo jet lighter pictured for this article. Care to share its details?
It is a Vector Thundra lighter. I got mine free when I bought a box of Perdomo cigars. There are still some of the Perdomo promotional lighters available. Check cigarbid.com; they will sometimes be offered at huge discounts.
