Regius Black Label Robusto – tasting notes

Regius Black Label

Mike 89: Solid cigar.  Good burn that provided a smoke that left earthy notes on the palette.  Smoked this one down past the label.

Paul 86: Medium brown wrapper with dark mottling; minimal veins; cap much darker than wrapper, no soft spots; well filled.  Very slight cold draw tobacco aroma; very good draw with medium resistance.  First 1/3: good amount of smoke; mild tobacco flavor; some dryness in mouth; light grey ash.  Second 1/3: No flavor changes; pleasant but no complexity; a little bitterness and harshness; had to relight twice.  Last 1/3: some dark fruit flavors, but short lived; strength picked up to medium; some harshness; two more relights.  Overall a decent smoke, but nothing that would make you stop and take notice.

Will 89: Dry nose had lots of red pepper, nicely made cigar. Upon ignition I am thinking, is this a CC. Very woody tang with a pencil lead finish, lots of smoke, nice draw. Very Cubanesque for the first half. As I continued smoking the pencil lead finish ramped up unfortunately. I would like to smoke a few more of these to make up my mind either way.

Rob 87: Started off with a lot of flavor, a good portion of it was charred tobacco.  Draw is also a bit tight.  Plumes of smoke the entire stick.  Flavor was earthy, wit some hay and leather; nothing earth shattering; aroma was pleasant.  Burn was razor sharp.  I think this stick would have benefited form a drink along side of it; a nice malty brew would match perfectly.

Jim 89: Very easy draw, initial puffs are smooth and creamy. Very smooth but then about an inch in I’m starting to pick up a slight spicy pepper. A light medium in strength and that small bit of spice makes this a well balanced enjoyable smoke. Halfway through I’m picking up an oaky finish. Very wavy burn that needed a slight touch up. Its a good cigar if you want something more mellow. Probably a good breakfast cigar.

Artie 85: This cigar looks good and has a nice unlit aroma. Construction was perfect, with great draw and burn. But flavor wise there just wasn’t much there. It’s a bland cigar with little complexity. It’s not a bad cigar, but it needs more personality. I lost interest in it halfway through but stuck with it. But when finished, I left me with no memorable impression.
