In a recent discussion about cigar ash length, the subject of falling ash was addressed. For those of us who like our cigar ashes long, there is one answer to the falling ash question…the smoking jacket. Centuries ago in Europe, these 3/4 length robes were used to protect our formal eveningwear. Made of silk, velvet, or wool, the smoking jacket absorbed cigar odors, and protected smokers from falling cigar ash. They have since gone out of fashion, but at one time they were a symbol of elegant affluence. Well, I think it’s time to bring them back! I recently came across Duke and Digham, a company that makes to-order smoking jackets of premium quality. They offer various styles, and can custom-make anything you can dream of. And with the cold weather coming, it’s the perfect garment to wear in front of a crackling fireplace. Which one’s your favorite?

Wow ! you just jared a memory, My oldest Bro. sent me one from S E Asia back when he was active USMC in the late 60s. ( A.K.A a Grunt in Viet Nam during a R & R ) It was a dark red silk w/dragon print and the collar/lapel was black and as I recall it tied something like a robe. Yeah I was just as cool if not cooler than that ol H Hefner guy. I recall too reading not too long ago that ‘It ” ( the smoking jacket ) is the for runner of the Tux as we know it these days, They were on loan to that person that chose to wear them while in the smoking parlor
/ Den ( what a funny word) Etc…Any wayz I don’t know what ever happened to it ?
